The Objective of the Game

The objective of this game is to score more points than the opponent team within the given time which is limited to 40 minutes. To do so, each team attempts to score points by attacking or defending. While attacking, the offensive team sends a player (known as a raider) to the other team’s half to touch one or more players of the opponent team to score a point, or he has to wrestle them to return in his own team’s half. While defending, the objective is to capture the raider of the opponent team by wrestling him to the ground or by preventing him not to returning in his own team’s half.

Vivo Pro Kabaddi League Rules about Team, Players, and Equipment

Kabaddi is played between two teams, both consisting of twelve players each. Every single team in Pro Kabaddi is allowed to have a minimum number of 10 players and a maximum number of 12 players. Among those 12 players, it’s necessary to have a foreign player in the team. A total number of 7 players will be on the field during the match. While the other 5 players will be kept as substitute players. Unlike other sports or games, kabaddi requires no special equipment or accessories. It is the most physically challenging game in the world.

Vivo Pro Kabaddi League Rules on Substitution

Each Team of PKL will have a total of five substitute players. The captain of the team will have the authority to call for the substitute but to do so, the captain will have to ask for the referee’s permission.

Match Time

A Kabaddi Match consists of 40 minutes with two halves of 20-20 minutes each. Between these two halves, there will be a break of five minutes. After the break, the game will start after changing the sides of both teams.

Referee’s Permission Necessary for Timeout

During the match, any team can take a break of 90 seconds which is commonly known as the strategic timeout. Any player, captain, or coach can take this time but only with the referee’s permission. During this 90 seconds timeout, not a single player of both teams is allowed to leave the field. If any member of the team breaks this rule, then the opponent team will be awarded a bonus point.

Scoring and Points System – Vivo Pro Kabaddi League Rules

When a team gets their player released or pulls out the player from their opponent team, then every player will get a single point when he is out. In addition to this, two points will be given or added up for all out.  A raider can get some extra points by successfully touching the bonus line in the opponent’s half. If the raider gets caught with three or fewer defenders, a bonus point will be granted to the defending team.

Three bonus points will be given to a team when all of their opponent players will be declared out. A single point will also be given to a team if any body part of their opponent players goes out of the boundary.

All Out

If all players of a team are tagged out, then the opponent team will get 2 extra points. The technical term used for this bonus point is “All Out”.

Super Raid

If a raider scored 3 or more points in a single raid, then that raid is known as “Super Raid”. Those 3 points can be touch or technical or bonus points.

Super Tackle

If the defending team managed to hold the opponent’s raider with less than 4 defenders, then the defending team will get an extra point. The technical term used for these bonus points is “Super Tackle”.

Do or Die Raid

If a team gets two consecutive empty raids (not a single point scored in two raids), then the next raid will be a “Do-or-Die Raid”. In this raid, the raiding team must score a point, otherwise, the raider will be out even if he is not captured by the defending team.

Super 10

If a raider successfully scored ten raid points in a single match, then it is known as “Super 10”. These 10 raid points can be touch or bonus points.

High Five

If a defender successfully scored five tackle points in a single match, then it is known as a “High Five”. Super tackle points can also be included in these points.

Double

If a player successfully scored both a high five and super 10 in a single match, then it is known as a “Double”. All-rounders usually do that.

Bonus Point

If the opponent team has six or more players on the field, then the bonus line is activated. If the raider’s foot lands on the bonus line without cutting it, then the raiding team will get a bonus point even if the raider gets captured by the defending team during the raid.

Technical Point

The team will get a technical point, not because of any raid or defense but it will be given because of the following reasons:

  1. If a raider goes out of the field’s boundary during a raid without being in contact with an opponent.
  2. Coached by a player when a raid is active

Scoring System

  1. On a draw, both teams will get 3 points each.
  2. Five points will be given on winning a match.
  3. If a team loses by six or less than a six-point margin, then that team will only get one point.

Tie Rules in PKL Knock-out and Playoff Matches

If a match is a tie in an important match like a playoff or knock-out match, then the match will run 7 extra minutes to decide the result of the match. Those 7 minutes will be divided into two halves of 3 minutes for each team to raid.

Golden Raid

After the end of the extra seven minutes, if the match is still a tie then the golden raid will apply. In this golden raid, a fresh toss will be conducted by the umpire/referee and the toss-winning team will raid. If the first team successfully scored a point, then they will be the winner. If they failed to score a point, then the other team will get that chance. The team with more raid points will be announced as the winner.

Winning the Game and Match Result

The result of the match will be declared after comparing the points of both teams. The team that has the most points will be the winner. At the end of the game, if both teams have the same number of points then the game will be declared as a draw.

The above-mentioned are the necessary Vivo Pro Kabaddi League Rules for the Game.

The player having the most raiding points will be the top raider while the player having the most tackle points will be the top defender.

The PKL 2023 Season 10 is going to start on 7th October 2023 and the Jaipur Pink Panthers will play this tenth edition as the defending champion.
